Can I mount a solar wall light on a fence or pole?
Yes. The Solar Magic Cube comes with screws for walls and fences and cable ties for poles. Its solar panel rotates, so you can angle it to the sun wherever you mount it.
How far does the motion sensor reach?
The Solar Magic Cube senses movement up to 6m away and the Tower up to 8m. Each product page lists the range.
Do I need a remote?
The Tower comes with a remote to change the light colour, mode, timer and brightness from the ground. The Solar Magic Cube is set on the light itself, so there's nothing extra to lose.
Which wall light is best for security?
Choose a solar wall light with a motion sensor and set it to cool white (6000K). It stays dim or off until someone walks past, then lights up brightly.
Do I need an electrician to install a wall light?
Not for our solar wall lights. They screw onto a wall, fence or pillar and need no wiring at all. Hard-wired lanterns must be installed by a registered electrician, who will give you a Certificate of Compliance (CoC).
Which hard-wired wall light should I choose?
The Franschhoek is a classic matt black lantern with a die-cast metal frame and clear glass. The Constantia is IP54 rated, with a reversible mount so the light can face up or down. The Halo Square is slim and modern, with a built-in LED.
Is a bulb included?
The Franschhoek and Constantia take an E27 bulb up to 60W, which isn't included. We recommend a warm white LED. The Halo Square has a built-in LED, so there are no bulbs to buy or change.
Will solar wall lamps work during loadshedding?
Yes. They run on their own battery, charged by the sun, so they don't need Eskom at all.
How long do solar wall lights stay on?
It depends on the mode you choose and how much sun they got that day. Motion sensor modes use the least power because the light only brightens when someone walks past. Each product page explains its modes.
What if it's cloudy for a few days?
Solar lights still charge on cloudy days, just more slowly, so you may get less light time. Switching to a motion sensor mode helps the battery last longer until the sun is back.
What height should I mount them at?
Each product page gives the right height. As a guide, our Solar Cube works best at 2 to 4 m and the Tower at up to 3 m, which keeps the motion sensor working well.
What's the difference between a wall light and a lantern?
A wall light is a permanent fixture. Itโs mounted in one spot to light up a path, a door or a corner every night. A lantern usually has a handle, so you can carry it from the table to the stoep or take it camping. Some of ours do both: the Solar Glow Lantern works on a wall or a table, and the Tower has the classic lantern look but mounts on a wall or a gate pillar.
